Size Guide

Size Guide

The right fit helps every costume moment feel better, whether it is Halloween, a school event, a themed party, a festival, or a full family dress-up plan.

Costume sizing can vary between styles, suppliers, and product types. Always check the product-specific size chart on the item page before ordering.

Before You Choose a Size

Use this quick checklist:

  • Check the product page for a product-specific size chart.
  • Compare your body measurements with the chart, not just your usual clothing size.
  • Measure over the clothing you plan to wear under the costume.
  • If you are between sizes, consider sizing up where appropriate.
  • For fitted costumes, check chest, waist, hips, height, and length.
  • For kids costumes, use measurements first and age labels as a guide only.
  • For inflatable costumes, check the recommended height range.

How to Measure

Use a soft measuring tape if you have one. Keep the tape level and comfortable, not tight.

Chest / Bust

Measure around the fullest part of the chest or bust.

Waist

Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso.

Hips

Measure around the fullest part of the hips.

Height

Measure from the top of the head to the floor, without shoes.

Inseam

Measure from the top of the inner leg down to the ankle.

Shoulder to Hem / Costume Length

For robes, capes, dresses, tunics, and jumpsuits, check the listed length if available. This helps confirm where the costume may sit on the body.

Measurement Units

Lots of Costumes uses cm as the primary measurement unit where available.

For international shoppers, approximate inch conversions may also be shown.

Quick conversion:

cm inches
50 cm 19.7 in
60 cm 23.6 in
70 cm 27.6 in
80 cm 31.5 in
90 cm 35.4 in
100 cm 39.4 in
110 cm 43.3 in
120 cm 47.2 in
130 cm 51.2 in
140 cm 55.1 in
150 cm 59.1 in
160 cm 63.0 in
170 cm 66.9 in
180 cm 70.9 in

For the most accurate fit, use the exact measurements shown on the product page.

Adult Costumes

Adult costume sizing may not match everyday clothing sizes.

Some costumes are designed to be fitted. Others are relaxed, oversized, or worn over normal clothes.

When choosing an adult size:

  • Check chest/bust, waist, hips, and height where available.
  • Check costume length for dresses, robes, capes, tunics, and jumpsuits.
  • Size up if you are between sizes and want more room to move.
  • Size up if you plan to wear clothing underneath.
  • Check whether accessories such as gloves, belts, hats, masks, or capes are adjustable.

Kids Costumes

Kids costume sizing can vary a lot between products.

Age labels are helpful, but measurements are more reliable. A "6-8 years" label may not fit every child in that age range.

When choosing a kids size:

  • Measure height, chest, waist, and hips where available.
  • Check the product-specific size chart before ordering.
  • Consider sizing up if the child is between sizes.
  • Consider sizing up if the costume will be worn over warm clothing.
  • Check costume length so the child can move safely.
  • Avoid styles that are too long, too tight, or hard to move in.

For children, comfort and safe movement matter as much as the look.

Inflatable Costumes

Inflatable costumes often fit differently from standard costumes.

Many inflatable styles use recommended height ranges rather than normal clothing sizes. The costume needs enough room to inflate properly once the fan is running.

Before ordering an inflatable costume:

  • Check the product page for fit-height guidance.
  • Check whether it is listed for adults, kids, or both.
  • Check whether a fan is included.
  • Check whether batteries are included or need to be supplied separately.
  • Make sure the wearer can move, sit, see, and breathe comfortably.
  • Keep the fan and battery pack dry and away from damage.

If an inflatable costume is too small, it may not inflate properly. If it is too large, it may be harder to move in.

One-Size Costumes

"One size" does not mean one size fits everyone.

One-size costumes usually fit a range of body measurements. The product page should explain the recommended height, chest, waist, or general fit range where available.

Before ordering a one-size item:

  • Check the product description for the fit range.
  • Check the costume length.
  • Check whether elastic, ties, belts, or adjustable pieces are included.
  • Consider whether the costume needs to fit over clothing.
  • Contact us before ordering if the fit range is unclear.

Between Sizes

If you are between sizes, the best choice depends on the costume style.

Consider sizing up when:

  • The costume is fitted.
  • You want extra room to move.
  • You plan to wear clothing underneath.
  • The costume has little or no stretch.
  • The size chart shows your measurements close to the upper end of a size.

Consider staying closer to your measured size when:

  • The costume is already oversized.
  • The style needs a closer fit to sit correctly.
  • The product page specifically recommends not sizing up.

Product-Specific Charts Come First

This Size Guide is general advice.

The product-specific chart on each product page should always come first, because costume sizing varies by supplier, cut, fabric, and style.

If a product does not include enough sizing information, contact support@lotsofcostumes.com before ordering and we will help where possible.

Quick Summary

  • Check the product-specific size chart first.
  • Measure in cm where possible.
  • Use inches only as an approximate conversion.
  • Kids age labels are a guide; measurements are better.
  • Inflatable costumes often use height ranges.
  • One-size costumes still have limits.
  • If between sizes, consider sizing up for comfort and movement.
